Energy is the most fundemental input into any society. Without it you are poor and with it you are rich. In this deep dive i will investigate the relationship we europeans have had to energy in the past decades, and contrast our trejectory to the Americans and the Chinese.

Compareing US and EU energy consumption and production
Comparing US and EU energy production and consumption a rather a very scary picture emerges for us europeans. Compared to the US we are actually energy poor. Since 2002 European energy production and energy consumption per person has been declineing.
The consequence has ofcourse been a continous dependency on foreign energy imports, and increasing electricity prices which are further amplified by exogeneous shocks such as the russia/ukraine war and Oil-shocks.
